It was back on the 1st of
February 2005 when I was working for a company called OConnor
Airlines from Mount Gambier, South Australia.
This particular aircraft (rego VH-OAA), and myself, were permanently
based in Adelaide, South Australia, and we used to fly YPAD-YMIA-YPAD
twice per day, one return trip early in the morning and one
return trip in the evening. Mildura (YMIA) is almost due East
of Adelaide (at 200nm or so) so on the first sector we would
quite often get really good westerly winds. This particular
shot was taken at FL250, just prior to TOPD.
The sad thing about this aircraft is that Just recently, in
the last 3 months or so, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority
of Australia (CASA) issued a directive permanently grounding
all C441s with more that 22,500 flt hrs. If I recall correctly
the a/c had about 21500 hrs on it when I did this flight. As
a result the Boomer as she was affectionately known
as within the company is now mothballed.
