222 kts |
| Notes |
A coincidence: Earlier I
posted a groundspeed record of 215 knots. This higher speed of
222 knots occurred on the same day of the year two years later
in almost the same place. The departure and destination are the
same for each trip. Details: Flying in level cruise at 9500 feet.
We were east of Savannah, TN and north of Huntsville, AL. Power
was: 21" MP/2500 RPM, ROP @ ~17 GPH. I was running LOP and
wondered how fast we could go with more power and adjusted mixture
until the speed peaked. The tailwind component was between 50
and 55 knots. I'm sure I could have picked up another 20 or 30
knots if I had gone up to 15,000 feet. I just didn't want to break
out the oxygen equipment....maybe another time on a longer flight.
On this 330 nm trip we averaged 198 knots from lift-off to touchdown. |
